I’m no “Julia Child”

For those who don’t know of her, Julia Child was an amazing chef who created and mastered the fine art of French cuisine with such finesse she became famous for through her released cook books and television shows.

I want to share with you a little backstory about my inability to cook.

…okay, I wouldn’t call it an “inability” because I mean my kids are still alive..

the inability part was referring to the fact that before I forced myself to really starting baking, cooking etc, I was doing the bare minimum to save food cost. Mainly because I could never cook right.

Either the noodles would be too done, or not done enough…

I’d fry chicken to fast and it would be raw in the middle.

So for most of my adult life it was easy-type convenience meals that kept us all fed.

When my boyfriend became part of the picture, food actually was cooked correctly.

…and boy can he cook.

AND looks good doing it.. it’s a Win/Win.

I’ve kind of picked up this motivation this year to really learn how to follow a recipe to completion. Maybe it’s the fact that I’m turning 26, and have two children that need real food and nutrition.

I hope I’m not the only parent to throw some dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets in the oven!

I’ve talked about Pinterest in my previous post(s), and I cannot stress enough how amazing this app is–especially for Meal Ideas and recipes!

*It has really saved my butt during meal prep time before I head to the store.*

It is really simple. People that create these pins break down the ingredients and instructions so profoundly it’s super easy to follow.

Now I realize that back in 1945 you cooked with an actual cook book. My mother thought it was funny to give me a microwave cookbook from like the 40s. (Question: Where can I find “jellied lamb chops”)

I still have it. It’s completely vintage but some things in there I recognize.

I guess my point in sharing is that no matter what you think you are bad at, chances are if you give it a real try, you might not suck as bad as you think. I can now make a mean pot of chicken and dumplins..and an amazing batch of broccoli cheddar chicken. Among other things.

My kids thank me, and yours will too!

(Gotta go pull those dino nuggets from the oven!) 🙂
